The Izod/Charpy Impact Tester is a tool used to gauge how resistant a material is to being damaged by impacts. The test measures the force necessary to cause a single impact from a swinging pendulum to crack a sample of the material that has been notched. Similar to the Charpy test, the Izod test supports the sample on the other side of the notch. Both Izod and Charpy test are widely used to measure the impact resistance of plastics, composites and metals. As per standard ASTM D256-10, ASTM D618-13.
